The Basel Chamber Orchestra maintains a long-time partnership with renowned oboist, composer, and conductor Heinz Holliger.
This is how the newspaper Badische Zeitung summed up this prolific partnership: “[W]hat Heinz Holliger and this incredibly alert and intensely passionate orchestra have to say is brimming with force. Much of this interpretation [of Schubert’s symphony] appears out of this world, as if we do not share the same Earth.” The partnership of Holliger, who is regarded as one of the greatest experts on Robert Schumann, and the musicians from Basel in their interpretations of this composer’s music is the new pinnacle of attuned harmony. The Basel Chamber Orchestra is regarded as one of the leading chamber orchestras and regularly appears at all major festivals and concert halls around the world.
The orchestra’s musical endeavours have been celebrated through more than thirty award-winning records made with acclaimed record labels such as Sony, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, and Warner Classics. Under the leadership of its concertmasters and select conductors, the orchestra performs a broad repertoire that ranges from baroque music played in historical performative practice, historically informed interpretation of pieces from the Classical period, all the way to recent contemporary music pieces.

Joining the orchestra on piano will be Aleksander Melnikov, a regular guest of the finest concert venues, who became the favourite of any audience with his position that a good interpretation should be like a breath of fresh flowing through traditional conventions.
Detailing his refined performance that was permeated by witty twists, a music critic in the Hamburger Abendblatt wrote: “This pianist boasts such a broad range of sound, feeling for the right moment, and such eloquence that we just want to get on our toes and see for ourselves what his fingers are actually doing on that keyboard.”
Melnikov opted for a historically informed performance practice already as a young winner of the International Robert Schumann Competition and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, and continued his journey by playing with musicians with whom he keeps unveiling the as of yet unheard dimensions of great works of music.
