Clarinet player Andreas Røysum is currently one of Norway’s hottest music artists: not only is he socially active with his fight against the gun lobby of Kongsberg Group that sponsors the major Norwegian jazz festival in Kongsberg, he’s also, or perhaps first and foremost, the driving force behind the Motvind organization that includes a record label, a jazz club, and the Kongsberg jazz festival.
Once Andreas gathers his nine best friends on stage and dive head-first into music, which has an air of Sun Ra or Don Cherry and is heavily influenced by African and Indian music, we get an amazingly forceful big band! The band’s rhythm machine is powered not by one, but by two drummers and two double bass players, including the amazing Paal Nilssen-Love (The Thing). Brilliant musicians, excellent solos, and music that is based on “community” first and the sound of a big band that is about to envelop the Small Stage and send you flying from your seats into the stratosphere of contemporary spiritual jazz. We’re in for one heck of a party and loads of pure fun!
