In the decades since its establishment in 1945, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra has, under the ambitious leadership of outstanding conductors, developed a distinctive sound that successfully resonates both in Baroque music and in the broadest range of contemporary sonorities. The strings represent the heart of the orchestra, but the ensemble expands with ease, as do its varied concert programmes, which extend right up to the symphonic scale. The orchestra’s concert projects are always closely intertwined with the personality of each of its guest soloists. The latter are always exceptional musicians, which is certainly the case with three-time winner of the Gramophone Classical Music Award, violinist and conductor Thomas Zehetmair, who is renowned for his passionate and dynamic conducting style. He has conducted many of the world’s best orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and he has led the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra since 2019.

The present concert will revolve around the airy sonority and sensitive musicality of French music and virtuoso flute playing. The latter will be in the masterful hands of the star of the evening, Emmanuel Pahud, the principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic and one of the most popular flute virtuosos in the world. Pahud convinces with his radiant tone and the lightness and joy of his playing, which always mesmerises the listener.
